Give yourself a pat on the back Northeastern Region! Our numbers are up across the board, and everyone has been doing great so far this year. We can’t afford to stop now, not with the political climate we find ourselves in!
Chuck Lehnert is rocking and rolling this year! So far he has seen a 329% gain over his numbers last year! Way to go Chuck! And we still have one quarter left!
The reason behind Chuck’s success is threefold and a great example to all recruiters.
- Chuck has a professional, organized and up to date display. Make sure you have current applications and 11 x 14 tabletop displays. When your magazines become worn or outdated, give me a call and I will send you some new ones.
- Chuck’s personable and outgoing demeanor helps draw in people to sign up. Stand up and talk to people, invite them to your booth with a smile and a quick word about the importance of the NRA!
- Chuck is ready and willing to try new venues for recruiting. He has made sure I know his schedule, so that if a new opportunity presents it self in his area I know if he is free to work it or not. He also recruits wherever he is, Chuck is an NRA Instructor and doesn’t let a class go by without reminding them of the importance of the NRA.
As we head into fall, the gun show season is really starting to ramp up again. Let me know your schedules so that I can help you find available show. We are in the last quarter now, so this is your last chance to push your numbers higher for the year!

Congratulations to the Southeast Region! As a whole, our membership numbers are up 118% over last year! We can all name a number of reasons why our membership totals have increased, but none more important than each of you putting an application book in front of people and asking them to join!
Many of you have already made 2009 the best year ever for your membership sales - Jim Mangels, Bill Dickens, Proactive Shooters, Bill Huff, and Mark Becker, just to name a few. Special congratulations to Virginia Beach Rifle & Pistol Club who recruited 158 members in 2008 and have signed up 452 members this year alone. Also, congratulations to Ed Monk who recruited 39 members in 2008 and has signed up 141 in 2009! These are HUGE increases and I hope to see this trend continue.
The summer season tends to be slower for your gun show calendars, but we’re now into fall and it’s time to fill your schedules once again. Also, keep in mind that hunting season is fast approaching, so don’t forget to sign up your hunting buddies. I want to see the Southeast Region finish 2009 as the No. 1 region in the country, and we can accomplish that by keeping up the momentum!

The Central Region is closing in on recruiting 20,000 members in 2009, which would be a new milestone for the region as a whole! We nearly doubled our total number of members recruited in the Central Region in between 2007 and 2008, and you are on track to do the same thing in 2009 - this is a truly incredible feat!
We have seen a very explosive year in the number of new members approaching us to sign up and help protect their Second Amendment Freedoms. From the traditional gun shows, which saw record crowds, to political rallies, bike and car shows, and even the local sporting goods store, you have all put in a lot of time and I want to make sure you know it has made a big difference helping NRA push forward in defending the Second Amendment.
As the last quarter of 2009 approaches, try to make the best of this prime season for NRA recruiting. With hunters going afield and shooters enjoying cool days on the range it can be the best few months of the year to talk about the Second Amendment and the importance of the NRA. Many new recruiters are using new avenues to increase our numbers, like Gordon Maracle, who is making a big slash recruiting at Bass Pro Shops. This is having a huge impact; to name those who have career highs so far this year would nearly name the entire region. All of you have made great efforts to grow NRA membership.
As we enter the fall of 2009 we need to keep up the good work, as gun rights are still very much in the forefront of the national debate. The number of memberships you have recruited is a direct result of your commitment, and for that we thank you.

Way to go Western Region! You are up 99% over 2008. It’s amazing that your numbers have doubled in the last year. That just goes to show that there are potential members everywhere who just need a little extra push in order to get their memberships started. Much of our region’s growth is thanks to new recruiters utilizing solid tactics and recruiting in new venues.
For example, one of our newest recruiters, Kevin Brophy in Colorado, has mapped out several new areas to recruit and his numbers are growing with every show. Kevin has figured out what works for him - he keeps the conversation focused on NRA membership. Kevin is adamant about not becoming a pushy salesman, but he knows he will never sign anyone up if he doesn’t ask for the sale.
Another new recruiter, Ron Linder of Mel’s Gunsmithing, has locked in 9 shows for the rest of 2009. This is a great example of a recruiter taking advantage of every opportunity, and if there are any events or shows in your area that are not covered please contact myself and the show Promoter, and arrange to get your foot in the door recruiting members and strengthening the NRA. There is no time like the present to make a difference.
